William G. Madsen
Mr. Madsen graduated cum laude in 1985 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he majored in philosophy and religion. He went on to attend the Yale Divinity School, receiving his Masters of Arts in Religion in May of 1987. Mr. Madsen then attended the Vermont Law School, where he was elected Managing Editor of the Vermont Law Review. He received his law degree cum laude in May of 1990. From August of 1990 through July of 1991, Mr. Madsen served as a law clerk to the Honorable Conrad K. Cyr of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Following his clerkship, Mr. Madsen became an associate of Day, Berry & Howard in Hartford, Connecticut, where his practice soon focused on representing employers in labor and employment matters. From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Madsen practiced with the firm of Jackson, Lewis, Schnitzler & Krupman, a national law firm which focuses its practice on representing management in employment and labor matters. On May 1, 1997, Mr. Madsen started his own firm in which he represented employees in employment and labor matters and related litigation.
On September 1, 1998, he and Peter B. Prestley formed a partnership under the name Madsen & Prestley, LLC, which in May of 2000, with the joining of Jacques J. Parenteau, reformed under the name Madsen, Prestley & Parenteau, LLC. The firm’s practice centers on representing individuals with respect to a broad array of employment-related claims, including wrongful discharge, whistle blower retaliation, family and medical leave, disability accommodation, wage and hour, breach of contract, violation of public policy, and discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, disability, and national origin.
Mr. Madsen is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and is licenced to practice law before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as well as the state and federal courts of Connecticut and Maine. In 1999, Mr. Madsen was appointed Special Master for the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. He has also written and lectured extensively regarding employment law related issues, ranging from non-competition agreements to disability discrimination to wrongful discharge.
